This project entailed studying the rural India telecom industry, social structure and communication to aid early phase research, analysis. Then present innovation ideas to Qualcomm to help launch their new mobile technology and related application.
Qualcomm was in the early phase of concept development of their peer to peer free data exchange technology and wanted an overview of the Indian rural and tier three market. As part of secondary research Qualcomm was looking for an understanding of the rural India across verticals- healthcare, education, governance, digital consumption and telecom usage and usability. An overall understanding of social hierarchy, communication and sharing was essential to be able to recognize potential opportunities
During primary and secondary research in two tier 2 and two tier 3 towns, we spoke to healthcare personnel, teachers, government employees and other key users to gain an overview of of the various eco-system involved. Even though we were only scratching the surface, we found ourselves among abundant opportunity outlets for Qualcomm's technology. We further synthesized our findings into meaningful strategic ideas for Qualcomm.
